When I come to, I’m lying on the bed underneath the soft floral-print comforter. I’m warm, but I’m still undressed.

And I’m alone.

I tiptoe out of bed and creep to the bathroom towards the sound of the running shower and let myself inside.

From behind the semi-transparent shower curtain, I hear Jack call, “Nikki?”

“Yeah?”

“Everything okay?” he asks.

I wait for him to invite me into the shower, but he doesn’t.

“Do we need to talk about this?” he asks.

I shrug even though he can’t see it. I mean, that was the best, most intense sex I’ve ever had. It was everything I thought sex with Jack would be. But immediately afterwards, he left me alone in my post-orgasm stupor while he snuck away to wash me off of him.

“Nikki? Still there?”

The water stops. Jack emerges from the shower with a white towel slung low across his hips.

I swallow. It’s my fantasy come to life.

“Are you coming back to bed?” I ask in a weak voice.

“For a minute,” he says, eyeing me strangely. “But if we’re going to make it to that bar in time for Teo’s set, we’ve got to get a move on.”

“Right,” I agree, “I should shower too then.”

“Are you okay?” he asks.

“Yeah,” I reply, a little too quickly. I finally had sex with Jack and God, I have so many questions right now. Are we okay? Are we going to do that again some time? Is sex ever going to be like that with anyone else ever again? “Did you come?”

“Are you serious?” he chuckles.

I shrug.

“What do you think all that noise was?” he asks. He makes a face like he’s fighting very hard not to smile which happens to be my absolute favorite of Jack’s limited range of facial expressions.

I laugh a little and lean over him to turn on the shower for myself.

“Figure about an hour?” he asks.

“Sounds good.”
